The Watson PTA is excited to announce the third annual Watson PTA Read-a-thon - Adventure Awaits! Combining fundraising and academic goals, our aim is to have every student read for at least 20 minutes per day and to raise at least $10 over the course of the Read-a-thon. Each child should receive a Read-a-thon packet with full instructions by the end of this week.

We will be running this Read-a-thon throughout the month of March but to make it easy, here's what you need to know:

  • March 1-March 10 - Collect pledges using the Pledge Sheet. Pledges can be per minute read or a flat donation amount. Never allow your child go door-to-door to solicit pledges or collect pledges alone - safety first of course!
  • March 11-March 22- The reading period. Have your child(ren) log minutes read on the Reading Log sheet. Minutes spent reading independently and/or being read both count toward read-a-thon minutes.
    • ***THURSDAY, MARCH 21st is the Character Day Celebration! Students are invited to come to school dressed as a book character. See the packet for more details.***
  • March 23-March 26 - Collect pledges and turn in the pledge envelope to your child's classroom teacher no later than Tuesday, March 26th. Pledge envelopes must be received by March 26th to count toward prizes.

What about those prizes you ask?

  • The child that logs the most minutes read in each class will have the opportunity to have a reading partner of their choice read a story to their class.
  • The class that logs the most minutes will win a pizza party and an extra special outdoor recess.
  • Each student who logs 100 minutes will receive an entry in the GRAND PRIZE RAFFLE for a Kindle Kids! For every additional 30 minutes logged, the student will receive another raffle entry, capped at a maximum of 5 raffle tickets per child. This year there will be two grand prize winners, one K-2 and one 3-5!

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the Read-A-Thon co-chairs, Lauren Cruise (Lauren.t.davis@gmail.com) and Carabeth Samuels (carabethsamuels@gmail.com).

Happy reading Wildcats!
